A 19-year-old dancer who appears in various states of undress on her Web site says she was fired from her job as a Toronto Raptors cheerleader because the basketball team considered the photos inappropriate.

Lucie Marshal, who uses the name Lindsey Marshal for her soft-core pornography work, said she was hired by the Raptors for the 2003/04 season and has operated the Web site since April, 2002.

Jim LaBumbard, the basketbal team's communications director, said last night that he could not comment on whether a dancer had been fired, and referred questions to Jim Roe, director of event operations for the Air Canada Centre.

Mr. Roe did not return a telephone message left at his office last night.

Tony Edwards, a representative of Victoria-based Avenue Blue Entertainment, which runs a series of soft-core sites, said in a statement that Ms. Marshal is "obviously very upset with the team's decision" and that she works on the site to fund her dancing career.

He said the team did not know anything about the Avenue Blue Web site -- "she didn't say anything and they didn't ask" -- until it found out some other Web sites had promoted pictures of Ms. Marshal by referring to her as a Raptor dancer.

"It was a verbal thing," Mr Edwards said of her dismissal. "They said, 'We see you've got this site up, we don't need your services here anymore.'"

While Ms. Marshal can be seen in a group photo of the Raptors Dance Pak on the team's Web site, a bio of Ms. Marshal appears to have been removed.

The former cheerleader's Web site promises access to photo galleries and video clips as well as live Internet chats for US$29.95 a month, or two months for US$39.95.

Ms. Marshal graduated from high school in Medicine Hat, Alta., In 2002.
